" My goal as a painter is to capture the essence of a moment in a very particular place. I work in a loose, painterly style. I love oils because they have such an infinitely variable, sensual surface quality and I like to experiment with different ways of being descriptive with my paintbrush or palette knife. I think composition and good drawing are the underpinnings of a good painting yet I try not to be too literal in my vision. I like to distill things down to their essence and not put in a whole lot of detail. "
