Procrastination ..the enemy

September 22nd,2011
Why is it so hard to get started when you have a really exciting idea for a studio piece? I think that for me part of it is that my idea is perfect...the drawing is awesome, the edges sublime..the color harmonious, the brushwork bravura.... But..once i start to implement the concept , it become real and never quite as perfect as I had imagined it to be. The illusion is gone and you are left with reality , faults galore... Until you start , it is all possible!
I have to keep telling myself, " miles of canvas! You don,t get better by not painting,! And all the little mantras I have developed along the way to steel myself against the disappointment that is inevitable because I know more than I am able to reliably execute. It seems every time I improve , I discover another nuance that I had absolutely no idea about and that gets added to the long list of things I need to master. Anyway..enough procrastinating....I am off to my studio to do what I do and hope that today some genius artist will be channeled through me and paint the best painting of my life!

1 Response to Procrastination ..the enemy

Sometimes procrastinating is true avoidance of work. But sometimes, it means everything is not ready to go yet. I've had times when I have procrastinated and discovered the reason was all thinking was not yet clear enough to proceed. And once my thinking got really clear, then I could get to work with ease and efficiency. I think sometimes we tend to beat ourselves up too much about procrastinating.
